Zeeland Lumber & Dan Hoe Awarded for Outstanding Performance

Grand Rapids, Michigan, November 17, 2016 – CD Barnes Construction has implemented a new award program to recognize subcontractors who have gone above and beyond their everyday duties to ensure the success of a project. “Our company would not be what it is without the dedication of our subcontractor partners,” said Todd Oosting, Executive Vice President at CD Barnes. “We need to start showing them just how important they are to us; they are the key to our success.” With that being said CD Barnes coined the new award the Key to Our Success Award. Recent recipients of the first quarterly based awards were Zeeland Lumber & Supply of Zeeland, and Dan Hoe Excavating of Holland.

Zeeland Lumber & Supply was selected to receive the award by CD Barnes’ Project Manager, John Maycroft for their work on the Ridges of Cascade project. John explained the reasons for his selection, “From the start of the project, Zeeland demonstrated their commitment by having their President attend several important coordination meetings. They did a great job of managing their subcontractors, both in the field and within the change order process by having a designated field coordinator and a designated person assigned to process all changes. Furthermore, Zeeland has been instrumental in working through difficult challenges such as addressing the labor shortage issue by switching to panelized walls halfway through the project. Lastly, Zeeland was the first one to jump on the opportunity to be a part of a construction industry field trip for Innovative High School students organized by the Associated Builders and Contractors, Western Michigan Chapter in January of 2015. We were contacted by ABC regarding students touring our job site of several buildings in various stages of completion. When we asked if Zeeland would be interested in being a part of it, they jumped right in. It says a lot about a company when they choose to give freely of their time, to give young people the opportunity to be exposed to our industry in this way.” Zeeland Lumber’s Business Development Manager, Don Tucker and President/CEO, Mike Dykstra received their award from CD Barnes Construction’s Site Manager, Jonathan Stoner, Project Manager, John Maycroft, and Site Manager Vic Schut on Tuesday, October 25th.

CD Barnes’ Project Manager, Mike Dempsey selected Dan Hoe Excavating to receive an award for their work on The Shops at Westshore project. Mike elaborated on his choice, “The Shops at Westshore project involved a start and stop schedule at times, which can be a bit chaotic and costly. Dan Hoe Excavating was understanding of this issue and their willingness to mobilize and demobilize on a short time notice was great. Anytime there was a potential for changes in their scope that included additional costs or schedule implications, they made sure we knew about it as soon as possible. Moreover, Dan Hoe Excavating was able to recycle a great deal of asphalt and concrete for the base course gravel in the new parking lot. Lastly, their continued cooperation on dealing with unmarked and unknown utility conditions.” CD Barnes’ Project Manager, Mike Dempsey presented Dan Hoe Excavating’s President, Dan Posma and Vice President, Rich Maike with their Key to Our Success Award on Wednesday, November 9th.
