Southwestern Michigan College I.T. Center

Location

Dowagiac, MI

Due to the increasing demands for information technology (I.T.) experience in the workforce, Southwestern Michigan College recognized their need for additional space in order to accommodate I.T. corporate training, learning, tutoring, mentoring and assessment. In turn, this called for a 4,600 square foot addition and a 21,000 square foot renovation of an existing building on the Dowagiac campus.

The I.T. Center was designed and constructed in accordance with the LEED Green Building Rating System, meaning careful attention was given to recycling old materials, reusing materials for new construction, indoor environmental air and lighting quality, and energy efficiency to meet certification standards. Complete with a computerized HVAC system, controllable lighting systems with motion sensors, and low emitting materials, such as paints, coatings, and carpet, the facility is a state-of-the-art space for the college.
